OL2000: You Receive a "Host not found" Error When You Open a URL Link in an RTF or Plain Text Message (316436)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) link in a message that is in Rich Text Format (RTF) or plain text format, you receive a "Host not found" error.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because there is not an extension at the end of the URL, as in the following example:

http://ServerName

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

After the hotfix is installed, the English version of this fix will have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
