Images May Not Be Displayed in a Content Management Server Web Farm (316388)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2001
This article was previously published under Q316388 SYMPTOMS
You can scale Content Management Server 2001 horizontally by using multiple computers in a Web farm scenario; however, this setup may result in images not being displayed.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because Content Management Server uses an encryption key to generate the URL for images that are stored in the Content Management Store.
For example:
http://servername//rdonlyres/ennmmxn7yq75s7teuc33v5uxicsudumrwehyipq24nje3ohncysx72ypmgp7mel7477lbxbjaclfq4xvouezd336pqf/image.jpg
Unless all servers in the Web Farm share the same encryption key, users may not be able to see images on the Web site.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the Content Management Server ManageKey.exe program. The program is located on page 14 of the Installation and Configuration guide (MSCMS Setup Guide.pdf), which is located on the Content Management Server CD in the root directory.
- To run the program, double-click the Managekey.exe file that is located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Content Management Server\Server\Bin folder. Or, from a command prompt, navigate to the bin directory, and then type managekey.exe.
- Export the cookie encryption key from one server by clicking the Export Key button. In the dialog box that opens, type the file name in which to save the key. If you do not save to a floppy disk, you receive a security alert. You receive a confirmation after you successfully save the key.
- On the next server, run the import key command, and then select the file that you saved in step 2 to import the saved key to this server.
- Repeat this procedure for every server in the Web farm.
- Restart all computers that are in the Web farm.
