Telnet Server Unusable After You Uninstall Windows Services for Unix 2.0 (316366)

After you uninstall Windows Services for UNIX 2.0 from a computer that has been upgraded to Windows XP, the telnet server may be unusable. To verify whether this problem exists on a computer that is running Windows XP:
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type tlntadmn.exe, and then press ENTER.
If this problem exists on the computer you are testing, you receive the following error message or one that is similar to it:
"tlntadmn.exe" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
CAUSE
This problem can occur because the Windows XP Telnet server needs to be re-registered after you uninstall Windows Services for Unix 2.0.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue:
- At a command prompt, type cd %systemroot%\system32, and then press ENTER.
- Type net stop tlntsvr, and then press ENTER.
- Type .\tlntsvr /unregserver, and then press ENTER.
- Type .\tlntsvr /service, and then press ENTER.
- Type net start tlntsvr, and then press ENTER.
NOTE: If the startup type of the Telnet server is set to "Disabled" on your computer, ignore any error messages that are returned by either the net stop or net start commands.
