XCON: Cluster Failover Process Is Delayed Because of Message Transfer Agent Remote Procedure Call Timeouts (316354)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q316354 SYMPTOMS
When you run Exchange 2000 Server in a cluster environment and a resource failure of the message transfer agent (MTA) occurs, the time that is required to complete a failure may increase.
CAUSE
The information store periodically tries to communicate with the MTA. Because the MTA has stopped responding, the information store waits for a period up to 10 minutes to determine that the MTA is no longer available. During this time, the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server is waiting for the information store to complete the operations that are required to bring the SMTP virtual server offline. As a result, the SMTP virtual server does not complete a graceful shutdown in the configured time-out value.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the
