MORE INFORMATION
Lotus frequently releases versions of the Notes Client
through maintenance updates (MUs) or maintenance releases (MRs). Therefore,
Microsoft cannot test every version of the Notes Client that is
released.
Important This table is not a list of the supported versions of the Notes
Client. Instead, this table includes the versions of the Notes Client that
Microsoft used to test the Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes.

Support for the Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes in Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1
The Exchange Notes Connector uses the application
programming interfaces (APIs) that the Notes Client provides. Therefore, the
connector is dependant on the functionalities that are built into the Notes
Client. Because of this dependency, one common troubleshooting step is changing
the version of the Notes Client that the Exchange Notes Connector
uses.
Issues with directory synchronization are the most common issues
that Product Support Services (PSS) encounters which are resolved by
downgrading the Notes Client. However, PSS has also encountered issues with
message flow, message conversion, and migrations that are resolved by
downgrading the Notes Client. The following list is a partial list of some of
the most common issues that PSS has encountered that are resolved by
downgrading the Notes Client:
- Directory synchronization stops after
X number of users. X is
not necessarily the same number every time, but can be.
- The directory synchronization process, Lsdxa.exe, stops
responding (crashes) or generates a Dr. Watson report during directory
synchronization.
- The Migration Wizard (Migrate.exe) crashes or generates a
Dr. Watson report when you try to migrate users from Notes or Domino to
Exchange.
Microsoft makes all commercially reasonable efforts to support
the latest versions of the Notes Client in updates to the Exchange Notes
Connector.
In Exchange Server 5.5 SP3 and later, Microsoft does not
test Notes R4.6.x Clients with the Exchange Notes Connector because Lotus makes
the Notes R5 Client backward compatible, with the ability to connect to Lotus
Notes R4.6.x Servers. Because the Notes R5 Client is capable of connecting to
Notes R4.6.x Servers, Microsoft recommends that you install the appropriate
client based on the preceding table.
Microsoft continues to update
the tools that support interoperability among Lotus Domino R5 and Lotus Domino
6, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active
Directory. The updated tools for Lotus Domino replace the following tools that
are included with Exchange Server 2003 and with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
Service Pack 2:
- Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes
- Calendar Connector for Lotus Notes
- Migration Wizard for Lotus Notes

These updated tools provide additional functionality and address
several issues that customers reported with earlier versions of the
tools.
