You receive a "110 Visio cannot write to the file" error message when you try to open a Visio 2002 drawing (316030)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a Microsoft Visio drawing, you may see one of the following symptoms:
  • You receive an error message similar to the following:
    110 Visio cannot write to the file. The file has been opened read-only.
  • You cannot open the file.

CAUSE

This issue can occur when the file is on a re-writeable CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. In Windows Explorer, browse to the folder that contains the drawing.
  2. Right-click the drawing, and then click Copy.
  3. Browse to My Documents or a folder on a hard disk drive or network share.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  5. Right-click the pasted file, and then click Rename. Change the file name, but keep the same file extension (.dwg).
You can now open the copy of the file on the local or network folder.
