SYMPTOMS

If a Linux 7.2 client mounts a Services for UNIX (SFU) 2.2 NFS export, the client can create files that are up to four gigabytes (GB) in size. However, the client cannot create files that are larger than four GB. If a client attempts to create a file that is larger than four GB, Linux 7.2 reports that the maximum file size has been exceeded. Note that a Linux 7.1 client that mounts the same SFU 2.2 NFS export can create files that are larger than four GB in size.

CAUSE

When an NFS client mounts an NFS volume, the client queries the NFS server for both dynamic and static file-system information. The static file-system information that is returned by the NFS server includes a maximum file size. The SFU 2.2 server for NFS returns four GB as the maximum file size. The Linux 7.2 NFS client enforces the maximum file size that is returned by the NFS server.
