SYMPTOMS

After you make a dial-up connection to your Internet service provider (ISP), the connection status for the connection may appear as "Connected" for some time after the ISP disconnects the session or you disconnect the phone line from the modem.

CAUSE

This problem is specific to the modem driver. If you disconnect the phone line from an external modem, Netconfig immediately updates the status to "Disconnected." If you disconnect the phone line from an internal modem, Netconfig may take from 20 to 30 seconds to change the status to "Disconnected." For some modems, however, Netconfig takes from 1 to 2 minutes to update the connection status. It appears as if the modem driver does not inform Netconfig of the status change.

The ESS ES56V-PI internal data fax modem takes 2 minutes to inform Netconfig that it has been disconnected.
