This article was previously published under Q315509

SYMPTOMS

If you copy the Windows 98 installation files to the Windows\Options\Cabs folder, and then start Setup from this folder, third-party drivers that are added during Setup may be displayed twice in the Driver File Details window of Device Manager. The following list includes examples of when this symptom may occur:
  • Whenever a third-party driver is added during Setup.
  • When you use Infinst.exe (a deployment utility on the Windows 98 CD-ROM) to add the driver.
  • If the DevicePath=1 line is added to the Msbatch.inf file to specify an INF path.
  • If the Windows\INF folder is created before Setup, and the .inf file for the driver is added to this folder.

MORE INFORMATION

The second driver entry has no effect on the device or the operating system, and you can safely ignore it.
