SYMPTOMS

When you use the Web Project Wizard to create a new Web project in Visual InterDev 6.0 Service Pack 5 with a user account that contains Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) characters, you may receive the following error message:
Method '~' of object '~' failed. (ErrorCode=8000ffff)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Visual InterDev 6.0

Use the following steps to work around this problem:
  1. Log on to the system by using an account that does not contain any CJK characters.
  2. Create the Web project in Visual InterDev 6.0.
  3. Log off.
  4. Log on to the system by using an account that does contain CJK characters.
  5. Open the new project in Visual InterDev 6.0.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Log on to the system by using an account that contains CJK characters.
  2. Create a Web project in Visual InterDev 6.0 Service Pack 5.
  3. In step 1 of the Web Project Wizard, specify the server that you want to use, and then click Next. You should receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
This problem has been reproduced on the Chinese-language, Korean-language, and English-language versions of both Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft XP.
