The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Premium Edition
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Standard Edition
This article was previously published under Q315285 SYMPTOMS If you upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to either
Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition or Windows Server 2003, Enterprise
Edition, printer drivers from the following operating systems may no longer be
displayed on the Sharing tab of the Printer properties:
- Microsoft Windows 95
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)
Additionally, you may receive a message that states that there
are drivers that are installed that may be incompatible with either Windows
Server 2003, Standard Edition or Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition. This
warning message indicates that the installation process will remove any drivers
for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me from the
computer before the upgrade is completed. CAUSE This behavior occurs if the drivers are not compatible with
either Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition or Windows Server 2003, Enterprise
Edition. This behavior helps prevent instability issues from occurring with
these server operating systems. RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, install compatible printer
drivers for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me
from either the Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition or Windows Server 2003,
Enterprise Edition CD. These drivers are located in the Printers\Win9x folder.
STATUSThis
behavior is by design.
