When you try to view your portfolio on the MSN Money Web site, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Restart Microsoft Internet Explorer.

When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature similar to the following:

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if either of the following ActiveX controls for MSN Money Investing is damaged:
MSN Money Portfolio Manager
MSN Money Charting
These components are located in the \ Systemroot\Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk.
For example, in Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, the ActiveX controls are located in the C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files folder, where C is the drive on which Windows is installed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, remove the damaged MSN Money Investing controls from your hard disk, and then browse to the MSN Money Web site and reinstall the controls. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
- Under Temporary Internet files, click Settings.
- In the Settings dialog box that appears, click View Objects.
- Locate the following objects:
MSN Money Portfolio Manager
MSN Money Charting
- Right-click each object, and then click Remove.
Click Yes in response to the Are you sure? message to confirm the removal. - Browse to the MSN Money Web site at the following Web address:
- Under Investing in the left pane, click Portfolio to view your portfolio.
- In the Security Warning dialog box that appears, click Yes to install and run MSN Money Client Controls.
After the controls are installed on your hard disk, your portfolio information is displayed as expected.
