SYMPTOMS

Push notifications that are generated by Microsoft Outlook Mobile Manager or by Mobile Information Server are shortened or cut off when they are sent to a Short Message Service device.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the message contains the at sign (@) in the body. Characters that occur after the at sign are cut off or corrupted. This issue can occur if the telephone carrier configures their Short Message Service Center incorrectly. In the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM 3.38) alphabet, the at sign is encoded as "0x00". Mobile Information Server correctly sends this character to the Short Message Service Center. However, some carriers reconfigure their Short Message Service Centers to encode the at sign as a different value (for example, 0x40). In this case, the Short Message Service Center interprets the 0x00 value as an end-of-string character, and the rest of the message is cut off.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, ask the telephone carrier to reconfigure their Short Message Service Center's character code mapping file to handle the at sign correctly.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue can occur if you misconfigure a provisioned user. In general, the user device (GSM, time division multiple access [TDMA], or code-division multiple access [CDMA]) must match the carrier connection's device type. For example, if the user device is GSM, the carrier connection's device type must also be GSM. Character mappings are different between GSM, TDMA, and CDMA devices.
