XCCC: A Contact Opens in a Post or Mail Message Form (314833)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server SP2

This article was previously published under Q314833

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) to open a Contact, the Contact may be displayed in a post or mail message form instead of a Contact form.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you are using Exchange 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and the Contact has a custom message class (which means that when the Contact is viewed in Microsoft Outlook, the Contact uses a custom Contact form).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the fix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

318853 XCCC: Outlook Web Access Displays the Note Form Instead of the Contact Form

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and view the Contact in OWA, convert the message class field of the Contacts back to IPM.Contact. However, a side effect of this workaround is that you cannot use a custom Outlook form to view the Contacts in Outlook.

For additional information about message classes and a utility that you can use to change the message class fields, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

If the Contact is located in an Exchange public folder, OWA displays a post form; if the Contact is in a personal folder, such an Exchange mailbox, the Contact is displayed in a mail message form. In both cases, you cannot gain access to any of the Contact-specific fields that are typically associated with a Contact.
