This article was previously published under Q314581 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to print an envelope on a Hewlett Packard (HP) PhotoSmart printer, the envelope options in the Print dialog box do not allow a side-feed option.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the PhotoSmart printer driver does not support envelope printing in Microsoft Picture It! programs.
This behavior occurs with the following PhotoSmart models:
- HP PhotoSmart 1000
- HP PhotoSmart 1215
- HP PhotoSmart 1218
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, temporarily use a substitute driver to print envelopes. To do this, follow these steps. NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. - Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
- Double-click Add Printer.
- Click Next.
- In the Manufacturers box, click HP.
- In the Printers box, click HP DeskJet 870Cse, and then click Next.
- Click Local Printer, and then click Next.
- Click the port that your printer is connected to. This is usually LPT1. Click Next.
- In the Printer name box, type Envelope Printer.
- If you are prompted to use this printer as the default printer, click No.
- Click Next.
- When you are prompted to print a test page, click No, and then click Finish.
How to Switch Between Printer Drivers
Use the PhotoSmart driver to print printing, except when you print envelopes. To set the PhotoSmart driver as the default driver, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
- Right-click the icon for the PhotoSmart printer, and then click Set as default.
- Close the printer window.
When you want to print an envelope with a Picture It! program, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Print.
- In the Name box, point to the arrow, and then click Envelope Printer.
- Click Envelope Options to set your envelope options.
- Click OK, and then click OK to print.
