Works 2000: Error Message: Setup Could Not Move Calendar File C:\Program Files\Mswkscal.wcd (314497)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Works 2000, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Windows installer: Setup could not move calendar file C:\Program Files\Mswkscal.wcd

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Mswkscal.wcd file is corrupted or is a duplicate.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, rename Mswkscal.wcd, and then reinstall Works 2000. To do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, and then click Search.
  2. Click All files and folders.
  3. In the Look in box, select your computer's hard disk (usually drive C).
  4. In the All or part of the file name box, type *.wcd, and then click Search.
  5. When the search process is complete, right-click Mswkscal.wcd, and then click Rename.
  6. In the box that appears, type Mswkscal.old, and then press ENTER.

    When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each file named Mswkscal.wcd.
  8. Insert your Works 2000 CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  9. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  10. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  11. In the left-pane click Add New Programs.
  12. Click CD or Floppy.
  13. Follow the instructions to complete the installation process.
