OLEXP: Your Messages Disappear If the View Is Set to Show All Messages (314421)

When you attempt to open a message in Outlook Express, and the view is set to Show all messages, you may receive the following error messages:
There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred.
Message could not be displayed: Outlook Express encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.
If you quit Outlook Express, or if you move to another folder that has the view set to Show all messages, all of the messages may be missing next time you start Outlook Express.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if McAfee VirusScan version 4.5 or 6 is installed with Outlook Express.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, use one of the following methods. IMPORTANT: The following methods may cause virus protection to be partially or completely disabled, causing the system to be vulnerable to virus infection. Therefore Microsoft does not recommend these methods.
Remove McAfee VirusScan Program
To remove the McAfee VirusScan program, follow these steps:
- Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, under Currently installed programs, click McAfee VirusScan, and then click Remove.
- When you are prompted, click Yes to confirm the removal.
- Click Yes to restart your computer.
Stop Background Scanning
To stop any background scanning by McAfee VirusScan, follow these steps:
- Right-click the VShield icon in the Windows notification area, and then click Exit.
- When you are prompted, click Yes to turn off all background scanning.
Configure McAfee VirusScan to Not Scan DBX Files
