FIX: Query Results in Message Body of xp_sendmail are Empty If You Use ansi_attachments Option (314304)

SYMPTOMS

If you follow the instructions in Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q280720 to modify the registry to allow attachments to be sent in ANSI format with xp_sendmail, your e-mail contains an empty message body instead of the expected query result when you use the @query parameter.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: The following hotfix was created before the release of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3.

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
   Version      File name
   -------------------------

   8.00.551     Sqlmap70.dll
				
NOTE: Because of file dependencies, the most recent hotfix or feature that contains the files may also contain additional files.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, remove the registry key as documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q280720. Instead, use the @ansi_attachment parameter as documented in Q280720 with xp_sendmail in situations where you need an ANSI based attachment.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3.

MORE INFORMATION

If you use the @ansi_attachment parameter as documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q280720 without the @attach_results='true' setting, you may also encounter this problem even if the registry key is not configured as described in the article.
