How To Reconstruct a Data Store If You Cannot Restore Database Files in Exchange 2000 Server (314212)

This article describes the process of mounting a data store to recreate the store structures if you are unable to restore the database files. Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 creates new database files. As a result, all the data in the store is lost and cannot be recovered.

Mount Data Stores

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
2. Expand Servers, and then expand the server that you want to work with.
3. Expand the storage group that you want to work with.
4. In the Details pane, in the list of available data stores, the icon in front of the data store name indicates the status of the data store. If the icon shows a red down-arrow, the store is dismounted.
5. Right-click the store that you want to work with, and then click Mount Store.
6. In the warning message box, click Yes, but only if you are absolutely certain that you cannot recover the database.
7. If Exchange Server is able to mount the store, a dialog box confirms that the store has been mounted. Click OK. The new store is not accessible to users who are currently logged on to Exchange Server. Users must quit and then restart Outlook before they can connect to the newly mounted store.
