MSN Messenger May Cause an Error Message (314160)

SYMPTOMS

When you use MSN Messenger, you may receive the following error message:
Msmsgs.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you use an older version of Windows Messenger.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, make sure that the latest version of Windows Messenger is installed on your computer. The latest version of Windows Messenger is available as a free download from the following MSN Web site:

http://messenger.msn.com

To determine the version of Windows Messenger that is installed on your computer:
  1. Start Windows Messenger.
  2. On the Help menu, click About Windows Messenger.
  3. Note the version number, and then click OK.
