The information in this article applies to:

- Microsoft Visual Studio .NET (2002), Academic Edition
This article was previously published under Q313900 SYMPTOMS When you start Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002, a Microsoft Windows
Installer dialog box appears. The dialog box may refer to Visual Studio .NET or
to another application that installed the Microsoft Windows XP version of Mso.dll.
CAUSE When you install Microsoft Office 2000 after the Windows XP
version of the Mso.dll file is registered on the computer, Windows Installer
removes the Mso.dll typelib registration.
When you start Visual Studio .NET,
Windows Installer tries to repair the Mso.dll typelib registration, but the last product that you installed (Office
2000) is called to perform the repair. The Windows Installer detects a newer
version of the DLL on the computer than the version that is included with
Office 2000 and the repair process fails. RESOLUTION Perform a manual repair of Visual Studio .NET. To perform
the repair, follow these steps:
- Launch Visual Studio .NET Setup.
- After Setup executes, a maintenance mode window opens.
Select the appropriate repair option.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft
products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This bug was corrected in Visual Studio .NET 2003.
