SYMPTOMS

When you run the Japanese Consistency Checker on a computer on which Microsoft Word (English) and the Japanese Language Pack from the MultiLanguage Pack CD 2 are installed on a Microsoft Windows English operating system, some notations may not be displayed in the list. In Japanese Office 2000, these notations are correctly displayed in the list.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


To resolve this problem, change the registry information from English to Japanese.

  1. Quit all running programs, including Word.
  2. Click Start and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.
  4. Locate the following registry key.

    In Word 2002:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\LanguageResources

    In Word 2000:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\LanguageResources

  5. Select InstallFlavor and then click Modify on the Edit menu.
  6. In the Base, select Decimal and then type 1041 for the Value data.
  7. Modify the value for the Value data in both InstallLanguage and PreviousFlavor in the same way that you did for InstallFlavor in steps 5 and 6.
  8. On the Registry menu, click Exit.
To set the Japanese Consistency Checker, follow these steps:
  1. Start Word.
  2. Type ni keta. On another line, type 2 keta.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
  4. On the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Set Language.
  5. In the Language dialog box, under Mark selected text as, click Japanese. Clear the Do not check spelling or grammar check box and the Detect language automatically check box, and then click OK.
  6. On the Tools menu, click Options. On the Spelling & Grammar tab, verify that Normal sentence is selected in the Writing style dialog box, and then click Settings.

    NOTE: Verify that the insertion point is on the Japanese strings. If it is on the English strings, Grammar Only or Grammar & Style is displayed in the Writing style dialog box.
  7. In the Grammar Settings dialog box, select all items about Japanese Consistency Check under Grammar and style options, and then click OK.
  8. In the Options dialog box, click Spelling & Grammar. Click Recheck Document and then click OK.
  9. On the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Japanese Consistency Checker.
