SYMPTOMS

When a Terminal Services client connects to a Terminal Services server, the local printer on the client computer may be redirected to the server as a printer with ports ranging from TS000 to TS999 for the logged-on user. If a print spooler stops working or if the server is restarted, print jobs that are sent to such printers are restarted after the print spooler is restarted and the port name is reconnected. However, the printer may not be the same Terminal Services client printer and the print jobs may be printed on a different client computer.

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To use this hotfix:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:

    HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers

  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

    Value name: DiscardTSJobs
    Data type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: Decimal
    Value data: 0 or 1

If you set the value data to 1, jobs from Terminal Services redirected printers are not restarted when the spooler restarts. The default setting is 0 if the value does not exist.
