OL2000: E-Mail Message Size in Outlook Varies with Number of Recipients and Format (313720)

This article was previously published under Q313720 SUMMARY
The size of an e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook depends on the number of recipients and the format of the e-mail message. Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)-based e-mail messages are usually slightly larger than Rich Text Format (RTF) and plain text e-mail messages. However, the number of recipients has a greater influence on the size of the e-mail message than does the format.
MORE INFORMATION
When you address an e-mail message in Outlook, the entry ID, search key, display name, and recipient type all influence the size of the e-mail message. If there is large number of recipients for an e-mail message, the sent e-mail message is larger than the original e-mail message content. This does not affect the size of the e-mail message that is received by another user; it only affects the size of the e-mail message in the Sent Items folder.
The size changes because the information that is needed to ensure that the e-mail message is properly formatted and delivered to each recipient requires additional bytes in the e-mail message itself.
