SYMPTOMS

After you double-click a Microsoft Office program, the icon for that program bounces in the Dock, but the program does not start, and you do not receive an error message.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if your computer is running Mac OS X version 10.1.1 or earlier and one of the following conditions is true:
  • You have multiple programs that are open at the same time in the Finder.
  • Your Login preferences are set to automatically start multiple programs upon startup or when you log on to your computer.
Note This behavior does not occur if you start a program manually instead of using the Login preference, or if programs are not opened simultaneously.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the programs from the Login Items list. To this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
  2. In the Personal section of the System Preferences window, select the Login preference, and then select the Login Items tab.
  3. Select the items in the list, and then click Remove.
