Windows XP Hangs When You Try to Install Programs (313554)

When you try to install a program from a CD-ROM, Windows XP may stop responding (hang) with an error message on a blue screen.
This issue can occur if you are running a VIA Apollo KT133A chipset and a Creative Sound Blaster Live CD-ROM drive.
CAUSE
Data corruption occurs during large data transfers from the CD-ROM or DVD drive.
RESOLUTION
VIA has provided an update to fix this issue. You can download the fix from the VIA Web site at:

To work around this issue, you can change your CD-ROM or DVD drive from Direct Memory Access (DMA) mode to Processor Input/Output (PIO) mode in Device Manager. Or, you can start your computer in Safe mode and install the program.
