OL2001: Messages with Modified Attachments Are Not Sent to All Recipients (313427)

If you use Outlook 2001 for Mac to send a message that includes an attachment that was modified directly in the message itself and saved (in other words, the attachment was not first saved to disk and then re-inserted), the message may not reach the intended Internet Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) recipients and the attachment may be missing.
CAUSE
This problem can occur because the Macintosh file type and creator are set incorrectly when an attachment is modified directly inside a message.
RESOLUTIONA supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. The updated Outlook UI Library file installs into your existing Outlook Files folder and replaces the existing Outlook UI Library file.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, save the attachment to disk, make the modification, and then re-insert the file in the existing or new message that you want to send to the Internet SMTP user.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
