  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q313423

SYMPTOMS

If you select some text, and then use the Formatting toolbar to apply a format, the formatting may unexpectedly be applied to the entire paragraph.

This behavior can occur when you use italics, underline, bullets and so on. For example, if you click Bold on the Formatting toolbar, the entire paragraph may be formatted as bold.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start Word 2000.
  2. On the Format menu, click Style.
  3. In the Style dialog box, make sure that Normal is selected under Styles, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Modify Style dialog box, click to clear the Automatically update check box, and then click OK.
  5. In the Style dialog box, click Apply.
