You Cannot "Quick Format" a Memory Stick (313414)

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to format a Memory Stick with the Quick Format check box selected, you receive the following error message:
Unable to format drive X:

CAUSE

The error message occurs because using the Quick Format option on this type of device is not supported in Windows XP.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, do not select the Quick Format check box. Or, you can use the command-line Format.exe utility to format the Memory Stick drive.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
