You Cannot Create Reports from Remote Administration (313354)

SYMPTOMS

In Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000, you may experience either of the following two problems:

Problem 1

The following event is logged if you configure a report by using a remote administration Microsoft Management Console (MMC):
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft ISA report generator
Event Category: None
Event ID: 12020
Date:
Time:
User: N/A
Computer: ISA server name
Description:
The action to copy the period summary from array member array member name failed.The error code in the Data area of the event properties indicates the cause of the failure. The error description is: The system cannot find the file specified.

Problem 2

You cannot successfully set the Report Job properties for the location of report jobs and summaries from a remote computer.

Example

In the following scenario
  1. You connect to computer2 from computer1 to remotely manage ISA.

    NOTE: ISA is installed on both computer1 and computer2.
  2. You make the following changes in ISA Management to set the location of report jobs and summary files:
    1. In ISA Management, click Servers and Arrays, click servername where servername is the name of the server, and then click Monitoring Configuration.
    2. Right-click Report Jobs, and then click Properties.
    3. On the General tab, under Report Location, click Other folder, and then type c:\rep.
    4. On the Summaries tab, under Location of saved summaries, click Other folder, and then type c:\sum.
you notice the following results that cause the reports to be created locally but not on the remote computer that you are administering:
  1. The Rep folder and the Sum folder are created on computer1 but they are not created on computer2.
  2. On computer2, you notice that the location of the Rep folder has not changed; however, the location of the Sum folder is set correctly.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

With ISA Server, you can perform remote administration of ISA servers. If you use the Custom option in ISA Setup, you can install just the ISA Management snap-in on a Windows 2000-based workstation or server that you can use to remotely control the ISA array.
