FIX: ATL Container Implementation Does Not Allow Access to Ambient Properties (313237)



The information in this article applies to:

  • The Microsoft Active Template Library (ATL) 3.0, when used with:
    • Microsoft Visual Studio, Enterprise Edition 6.0

SYMPTOMS

The current ATL container implementation does not allow access to the showgrabhandles and the showhatching ambient properties. If you try to access these ambient properties from an ActiveX control that is in an ATL container, you receive the following error message:
0x8002000e - Invalid number of parameters.

CAUSE

The type library (Atl.dll) that describes these properties does not have the IDL attributes [out,retval] associated with the properties.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) and Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1).
