XADM: Duplicate Public Folder Directory Entries Exist After You Mail-Enable a Public Folder (313096)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q313096 SYMPTOMS
When you mail-enable an Exchange 2000 public folder, duplicate public folder proxy objects may exist in the directory for these public folders. A public folder proxy object is an entry in the directory that contains all of the mail-related attributes for the public folder (for example, e-mail addresses). If duplicate public folder proxy objects exist for a public folder, mail that is addressed to that public folder may not be delivered.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the

Component: System attendant
NOTE: Because of file dependencies, this update requires Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.MORE INFORMATION
After you upgrade a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 computer to Exchange 2000, and then switch the organization to native mode, any attempt to mail-enable a public folder (that was created in Exchange Server 5.5 before the upgrade) causes the creation of a duplicate public folder proxy object in the directory. Any public folder that you created on the Exchange Server 5.5 computer before the upgrade gives you the Mail Enable option. If you click Mail Enable to mail-enable the folder, a second object is created in the Exchange System Objects container (in Active Directory).
