SYMPTOMS

Some write operations may seem slow when you use Windows Services for UNIX 2.2.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Services for UNIX service pack that contains this hotfix.

To add the WriteHandleCacheSizePerVolume value to the registry:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit32 in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
  2. Locate and click the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\Services\Nfssvr\Parameters

  3. Click Add Value on the Edit menu, and then add the following registry value:

    Value name: WriteHandleCacheSizePerVolume
    Data type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: Decimal
    Value: The number of write cache handles to be cached per volume. The default value is 64.

  4. Quit Registry Editor.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
