FIX: Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator May Stop Responding in a Low Memory Situation (312947)

SYMPTOMS

When a server is in low memory situation, the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) process (Msdtc.exe) may stop responding (crash).

CAUSE

When MS DTC tries to manage new transactions, the attempt fails because of a lack of resources.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, verify that the memory configuration of the computer is correct, and then correct the memory configuration if it is not.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.

This fix does not resolve the memory issue of the computer. To fix the memory issue of the computer, you must check the memory configuration of the computer. This fix prevents MS DTC process from crashing and generates Connection Manager event log 4156, which contains the following description:
String message: INFORMATIONAL : CSO::Maintain_SSTATE_UP session Failed ProcId=0x960 Error=0x80000127.
