This article was previously published under Q312814 SYMPTOMS When you start Microsoft Money, you may experience the following symptoms:
Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
This operation cannot be performed If you installed Microsoft Money 2005 Standard, you may experience the following issue. You try to locate the Cash
flow section of the program. Instead, you find the Assign budget amounts to accounts section. The Assign budget amounts to accounts section contains a link to the Forecast your cash flow page. When you click the Forecast your cash flow link, you receive the following error message: This area isn't available in your version of Microsoft Money. For access to additional financial tools and information, upgrade to Money 2005 Deluxe, Premium or Small Business. CAUSE This behavior may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true: - One or more of your scheduled bill entries are damaged.
- One of the entries in your Budget is damaged.
- One of the entries in your Debt Reduction Planner is damaged.
If you experience the Money 2005 issue that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, it is because cash flow forecasting is no longer available in Money 2005 Standard. RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, use one of the following methods. Method 1: Delete the damaged Bills and Deposits- Start Money.
- Create a backup of your Money data file to the hard disk. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click File, and then click Back Up.
- In the Back Up dialog box, click Back up to hard disk to back up your current money data, and then name the file My Backup.
- Open the Bills Summary page or the Bills and Deposits page, depending on the version of Money that you are using.
- Delete the scheduled bills and deposits in the list one by one until the Cash Flow returns. When the Cash Flow returns, the last bill that is deleted is likely the damaged transaction.
- After the Cash Flow returns, restore the backup file that you created in step 2. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click File, and then click Restore Backup.
- In the Restore Backup Wizard, select the Restore from a backup file option, and then click Next.
- Click Let me browse for a different backup file, and then click Next.
- Locate the file that you saved in step 2. In this case, locate My Backup.mbf.
- Click Restore.
For more information about how to restore backup files, see the Microsoft Money Help topic "Restore a Money backup file." - After the file is restored, open the Bills Summary page or the Bills and Deposits page, depending on the version of Money that you are using.
- Delete the transaction that you found in step 4.
- Test to see if the Cash Flow page now appears or if the error is gone.
If the Cash Flow page does not appear after you delete the transaction that is identified in step 4, there may be more than one transaction that is causing the problem. If this is the case, repeat these steps to see if any additional transactions in the Bills and Deposits list cause this problem. If you delete all the bills and deposits in the list and this still does not resolve the behavior, go to Method 2.
Method 2: Reset the Debt Plan- Start Money.
- Use the one of the following steps for your version of Money:
- In Money 2005 and in Microsoft Money 2006, click Tools, click Settings, and then click Planner Options.
- In Microsoft Money 2002 through Microsoft Money 2004, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Planner tab.
- In the Debt Reduction Planner section, click Reset Debt Plan.
Note When you reset your debt plan, all the accounts are moved out of the plan and any recurring debts payments that you have set up are set to $0.00. - When you receive the following message, click Yes, and then click OK:Are you sure you want to clear all the information and permanently delete your Debt Plan?
- Quit and then restart Money.
- Test to see if your Cash Flow works.
If your Cash Flow page still does not work, go to Method 3. If the Cash Flow page does appear after you reset your Debt Plan, redo the set up of your Debt Reduction Planner. For more information about how to do set up your Debt Plan, see the Microsoft Money Help topic "Create a Debt Reduction Plan."
Method 3: Create a new budget- Start Money.
- Click Budget.
- Click Create New Budget. When you receive the confirmation message, click Yes.
Note In Money 2005 and in Money 2006, you must be in the Advanced Budget mode to create a new one. For more information about how to switch between budget types, see the "Switch between an Essential Budget and an Advanced Budget" topic in Money Help. - Test the Cash Flow.
If creating a new Budget lets you see your Cash Flow page, you can re-create your Budget again. Make sure that you test the Cash Flow after some entries to verify that a specific entry is not causing the problem. If you still cannot see your Cash Flow page, there is some damage in the Money data file. Go to Method 4.
Method 4: Repair the Money data file
