BUG: "Internal Error 2744" or "Internal Error 2740" Error Message When You Uninstall BizTalk Server 2002 (312769)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to uninstall BizTalk Server 2002, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Internal Error 2744. LocalGroupDel_Tracking,
C:\WINNT\Installer\MSI528.tmp, /Silent /NoFail /Del
"BizTalk Server Report Users"

Internal Error 2740. Remove_XLANG_Pool_vbs_RB,
-2146828283

CAUSE

These error messages occur if you deleted the following local user groups from your computer:
  • BizTalk Server Report Users
  • BizTalk Server Administrators
The BizTalk Server 2002 uninstallation program tries to remove these user groups. If these groups are not available, the program generates the above-mentioned error messages.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, manually re-create the two groups as follows:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
  2. Click to expand the Local Users and Groups node.
  3. Right-click Groups, and then click New Group.
  4. In the Group name text box, type BizTalk Server Report Users, and then click Create.
  5. Right-click Groups, and then click New Group.
  6. In the Group name text box, type BizTalk Server Administrators, and then click Create.
  7. Close the Computer Management dialog box.
  8. Run the BizTalk Server uninstallation program again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2002.
