BUG: Error If You Reopen Orchestration Designer Immediately (312709)

SYMPTOMS

If you leave a few drawings open in BizTalk Orchestration Designer, close Orchestration Designer, and try to start Orchestration Designer again immediately, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Visio has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you click Debug in the error message dialog box, the following information appears:
The instruction at "0x35088abb" referenced memory at "0x00000004", The memory could not be "read".

CAUSE

This error occurs because a second instance of Microsoft Visio is trying to start before the first instance is closed completely. The BizTalk Orchestration Designer runs on top of Visio.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, do not immediately start the BizTalk Orchestration Designer after you close an existing instance of the BizTalk Orchestration Designer. Wait a few seconds to allow the original instance to close.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Start the BizTalk Orchestration Designer.
  2. Open three or four drawings in Orchestration Designer.
  3. Do not save the drawings, and close Orchestration Designer.
  4. Immediately start BizTalk Orchestration Designer again.
