"Address Is Not Valid" Error Message When You Add a Standard TCP/IP Port (312615)

When you enter the host name or the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of a printer in the Printer Name or IP Address box of the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard, and then click Next, you may receive the following error message:
The Address is not valid. Please enter a valid address and try again.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the host name or if any part of the FQDN is more than 16 characters in length.

WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, enter the IP address instead of the FQDN or host name in the Printer Name or IP Address box of the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.

After you install this update, you can enter an FQDN that has up to 48 characters in each portion of the FQDN (for example, between each period in the FQDN).
