Lsass.exe may generate an access violation and stop working if the hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article is installed:

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q310113 uses a variable with the same name as an existing variable.

RESOLUTION
