XADM: "Event ID 1009. Failed to Access the Metabase" Error Message and Errors 80004002 and 80070426 (312430)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Exchange System Attendant in Exchange 2000 Server, the following information may be recorded in the Application log:
Event ID 1009. Failed to access the metabase. Error 80004002.

-and-

Event ID 1002. Error 80070426.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Remove the existing installation of Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 5.0 from the computer that runs Exchange 2000 Server.
  2. Reinstall IIS version 5.0 on the computer.
  3. Reinstall Exchange 2000 Server over its existing installation.
