This article was previously published under Q312425 SYMPTOMS
When you try to obtain a list of Global Catalog (GC) servers in Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003, the following information may be recorded in the Event log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeDSAccess
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2075
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: ServerName
Description: Process STORE.EXE (PID=2152). DsBind failed.
DomainName, hr=0x8007054b, deltaT=31. The operation will be retried.
You may be unable to connect to the Exchange server.
You may also see the following information:
- MSExchangeSA-NSPI Proxy called DSACCESS to obtain a list of available GC servers. DSAccess returned error 0x8007054b.
- The NSPI Proxy cannot update its list of GC servers.
- DSAccess is unable to return the current list of GC servers. NSPI Proxy will continue to use the list that is in memory.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if DSProxy detects a problem in obtaining the list of GC servers from DSAccess. DSProxy triggers a failure, and clients cannot connect to the Exchange server. This behavior often stems from DNS issues that prevent the Exchange Server from finding the GC servers.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, complete the following steps on the Exchange Server computer:
- Start a command prompt, type ipconfig /all and
press ENTER, and then make sure that the DNS server that is listed
contains the record to the Global Catalog server.
- If an external DNS server is listed, remove the external DNS server.
Type ipconfig /flushdns /registerdns, and then
press ENTER.
MORE INFORMATION
Because DSAccess uses a round robin approach when it uses DNS, DSAccess might try to use the external DNS server, making the Exchange server unable to reach the GC servers.
In some scenarios, Event ID 2075 is also triggered if the DNS server is incorrectly configured or if the DNS server is not configured to locate its domain Global Catalog servers. Either a Standard Primary DNS zone or an Active Directory DNS zone must contain the _msdcs, _sites, _tcp, and _udp domain records.
