MacXLX: Excel Quits Unexpectedly After You Drag a Field to a PivotTable Data Area (312266)

When you try to drag a field to the Data area of a PivotTable, Microsoft Excel X for Mac may quit unexpectedly or stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if both of the following conditions are true:
- A field name is 122 characters or longer.
-and- - You drag the field name to the Data (or Drop Data Items Here) area of a PivotTable.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, shorten the length of the field name for the data to be used for the PivotTable.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
