The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office v. X for Mac
  • Microsoft Excel X for Mac
  • Microsoft PowerPoint X for Mac
  • Microsoft Word X for Mac

This article was previously published under Q312247

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Fill Transparency slider from the Formatting Palette in the Fill and Line pane or on the Colors and Lines tab to make an entire imported picture semi-transparent, the picture does not appear to be faded or transparent when you print it or preview it. Instead, it is printed solid, as if the picture was never set to be transparent.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Mac OS X PostScript drivers do not support the use of transparencies that are assigned to images overall.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Apple plans to make PostScript Level 3 drivers available for Mac OS X in the future. At that time, transparencies will be printed as expected.
