SYMPTOMS

If you browse to a page that contains a managed control and then try to change the Internet Explorer security settings, Internet Explorer may stop responding (hang). This occurs if you invoke Internet Explorer from the command line on Windows NT 4.0 (for example, type start http://www.mysite.com/controls).

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use one of these options to start Internet Explorer:
  • On your desktop, double-click the Internet Explorer icon.
  • On the Start menu, click Run, and then type Iexplore.exe.
  • On the Start menu, click Run, and then type the URL.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not recur after you reboot the computer.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. On the Security tab, change the intranet security setting to Low.
  4. Browse to any page that contains managed objects.
  5. Repeat steps 2 and 3. Notice that Internet Explorer hangs, and the mouse pointer appears as an hourglass for approximately five minutes.
