SUMMARY

This article describes how to change agent service account information for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) agents.

MORE INFORMATION

As of December 2001, the local MOM agent runs on the local agent by using the local system account context for the service account.

It is possible to specify the service account to use for the agents on the local computers. However, this setting is only applied to new agents, and existing agents will not be updated to use this new account.

It is possible to change the service account on the installed agents by using the Agenthelper.exe tool from the Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 CD-ROM and the Sc.exe tool from the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit.
  1. Use the agenthelper.exe /s:"server name" /u:"user" /p:"password" /h:0 /o:"expfile" command to create a list of computers that are currently managed by MOM, where server name is the MOM database server, user is sa, password is the sa password for the MOM database, and expfile is the file list you want to create as a result of the query.
  2. After you have a list of the computers, run the sc \\"machine name" config onepoint obj= "user" password= "password" command for each managed computer that needs the service account changed. Alternatively, you can uninstall and then reinstall the agents to force the new service account to be used on the local computer, but this could cause interruptions in service while the reinstallation is happening.
NOTE: The service account will not changed until the onepoint service has been restarted on each agent.
