PRB: Error 0x80110801 When You Import LMHOSTS File from Floppy Disk in Windows 2000 Setup (311882)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q311882

SYMPTOMS

During Windows 2000 installation, if you import an LMHOSTS file from a floppy disk and remove the floppy disk before Windows 2000 setup has completed, you may receive the following error message when setup initiates COM+ component installation and configuration:
COM+ Setup Error

Sub-component COM+ raised an exception while processing the OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message. ...\ccompluscore.cpp (line 464)
ERROR CODE = 0x80110801 Setup failed to initialize the COM+ catalog.
COM+ will not operate correctly without the catalog.

CAUSE

This error occurs because the "working directory" has been changed to the floppy disk when you select the LMHOSTS file. Because the floppy disk has been removed from the drive, COM+ setup cannot write a catalog file to the drive.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Do not remove the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive until setup has completed.
  • Import the LMHOSTS file from a location on your local hard disk or partition.

  4. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click Advanced.
  5. In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box, on the WINS tab, click Import LMHOSTS, and insert the floppy disk that contains your LMHOSTS file.
  6. In the Look in drop-down list box, click 3.5-inch floppy (A:), select the file, and then click Open.
  7. Click OK twice to close the Advanced TCP/IP Settings and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog boxes.
