You cannot modify the installation path of Visual Studio .NET components after Visual Studio .NET is installed (311855)

After you install Visual Studio .NET, when you attempt to modify the installation path of a Visual Studio component listed in the Feature Selection tree, the Path option is not available. Therefore, you cannot specify a new path.
CAUSE
This is the default behavior of this Windows Installer implementation.
RESOLUTION
To switch the installation option for any of the Visual Studio .NET components, including the MSDN documentation, follow these steps:
- Run Visual Studio Setup from the Visual Studio CD-ROM, or double-click Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to access Visual Studio .NET Maintenance mode.
- Select option 2 when Visual Studio Setup appears.
- Select Add or Remove Features.
- In the Feature Selection tree, clear the selection of the feature for which you want to modify the path.
- Click Update Now!.
- After the setup process is complete, select option 2 again.
- Select Add or Remove Features.
- In the Feature Selection tree, select the feature for which you want to modify the installation path, and then change the default installation path.
- Click Update Now!.
