XL2000: Combo Box Control on a Worksheet Returns to Its Original Value After Refresh (311749)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q311749 SYMPTOMS A combo box control on a worksheet displays the original
value, rather than the new value, after you change the focus from the control
to another area of the screen, or after you refresh the display.
For
example, if a combo box is initialized with the value "January", and then you
change the selection to "February", the value "January" appears in the control
after you click out of the control. CAUSE This problem only occurs when you open the workbook by
using a hyperlink. Excel opens a file from a hyperlink differently from the way
it opens a file from a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path or a mapped
drive. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the latest
service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the
following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 276367 OFF2000: How to Obtain the Latest Office 2000 Service Pack The English version of this fix should have the

10-DEC-2001 12:06:04 4,461,932 EXCEL.msp
After the hotfix is installed, the following files will have the

WORKAROUND To work around this problem, use either of the following
methods. Method 1 Replace the ActiveX control that you are using with a control
from the Forms toolbar. To display the Forms toolbar, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then click Forms. Method 2 Select another way to open the workbook. For example, either of
the following methods works correctly:
- On the File menu, click Open.
- Use Windows Explorer to find the file, and then
double-click the file icon to open the file.
