XCCC: An Event ID 8199 Error Message Is Logged in the Application Event Log After You Designate a Windows 2000 Site as Local (311596)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server

This article was previously published under Q311596

SYMPTOMS

After you designate a Microsoft Windows 2000 site as "local" in the properties of a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU), the following error may be logged in the Application event log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeDCS
Event Category: Internal
Event ID: 8199
Description: An error occurred while the conference technology controller was communicating with the T.120) MCU server_name. Error code: 8004f039
Users who are participating in conferences at that time may also lose communication. Users may not be able to join existing data conferences that are hosted on the MCU that the changes were made on.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the configured T.120 MCU local name is different from the network basic input/output system (NetBIOS) name for the MCU server. The T.120 MCU service cannot be located after any MCU properties are changed because of a service reload.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem:
  1. Make sure that the MCU local name is the same as the computer's NetBIOS name.
  2. If the local name needs to be configured as the server's fully qualified domain name (FQDN), you have to restart the MSExchangeConf service after you apply any changes to the MCU properties.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server.
