Computer quits with a blue-screen error in Mqac.sys on Windows 2000-based system (311538)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Message Queuing, also known as MSMQ, 2.0, your computer may quit with a blue-screen error in the MQAC driver (Mqac.sys).

CAUSE

On a fast computer, there is a possible race condition in the driver when you send persistent messages and both of the following conditions are true:
  • The MQMessage_Deadletter parameter is set in the PROPID_M_JOURNAL property.

    -and-

  • The Time to be Received parameter is set to zero.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.
